The Gate
I have participated in many Plein Air workshops. Meaning we have painted from life in a outside setting. It is amazing how many of these have included cemetery settings. No problem for me because I have always loved to walk through old cemeteries. The atmosphere is beautiful, calm, and respectful. A walk among history. I don't know about other area's traditions. I have only lived in the South. But in the South, cemeteries are special. Especially older ones. Many family plots are encircled by wrought iron fences. It seems to be a way of protecting their ancestors' markers and resting places, yet still allow the passer by to see the existence of their loved ones. Their names and the dates of their time here on earth. A way of unity of family and honoring those that came before us. The month of Halloween is full of costumes and scary creatures. But more and more, there seems to be special cemetery tours. Reenactments of the contributions of people that have had an impact and influence of our towns and communities. So in honor of the tradition of remembering and respecting our ancestors, I share with you my painting, The Gate.
Happy Halloween!
Thanks for connecting,
Cissy
